Two Indonesians, a man and a woman, were arrested on Wednesday for dealing in drugs, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press conference yesterday.

The duo are both 27 years old – the male suspect surnamed Suryanto is a non-resident worker who told the police that he works as a waiter while the jobless female suspect surnamed Alfiah holds a temporary stay permit.

According to Ho, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off recently about someone selling drugs to clients in night entertainment venues. PJ officers identified Suryanto as a suspect and put him under surveillance on Tuesday in the Avenida de Horta e Costa neighbourhood. The officers arrested him at around mid-night on Wednesday and seized a packet of ice weighing 1.37 grammes from him. The officers later found another packet of ice weighing 10.74 grammes in his home.

Under questioning, Suryanto told the police that he purchased the drugs from a woman who lives near the Red Market. The Judiciary Police arrested Alfiah at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday and found drug-taking paraphernalia at her home, Ho said.

According to Ho, the duo admitted to having been dealing in drugs in Macau for about one to two months. Alfiah admitted to selling drugs to Suryanto. She said she has a drug habit, but refused to reveal the source of the drugs or how she bought and sold them.

PJ officers seized a total of two packets of methamphetamine (ice) weighing 12.11 grammes with an estimated market value of about 40,000 patacas and the Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation to trace the source of the drugs, Ho said.

The duo were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a drug trafficking charge, while Alfiah also faces charges of drug abuse and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia, according to Ho.
