Duo involved in robbing sex worker case last week

A 21-year-old jobless woman, who was involved in a robbery case in Iao Hon district last week, was arrested on Thursday for stealing a computer tablet worth 1,200 patacas from a tutorial centre with a 14-year-old accomplice last month, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a press conference yesterday.

The female suspect surnamed Leong was arrested last week for robbing a sex worker with four local students aged between 12 and 17. The 14-year-old accomplice surnamed Lei was one of the students involved in the robbery case. Following last week’s robbery case, the boy was sent to the juvenile detention facility in Coloane, Ho said.

According to Ho, the person-in-charge of a tutorial centre in the northern district reported to the Judiciary Police on September 18 that a computer tablet in the centre had been stolen earlier that day. PJ officers scrutinised the centre’s CCTV footage and discovered that Leong and Lei got into the centre by entering the door code, and then used chewing gum and paper to cover the surveillance cameras, after which they stole the tablet computer.

PJ officers arrested Leong at her home on Thursday in Toi San district. Under questioning, Leong admitted to committing the crime. She told the police that she had got the door code from a friend who was attending classes at the centre. She said she planned to disassemble the computer and sell the parts. However, Leong told the police that she threw the computer away as it had been damaged while it was being dismantled, Ho said.

Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an aggravated theft charge, according to Ho.
