A man from the mainland was arrested last Monday for sexual harassing an 18-year-old female passer-by in Fai Chi Kei district on October 14, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a press conference on Friday.

The 30-year-old suspect surnamed Lin is a non-resident worker who told the police that he works as a handyman.

According to the spokesperson, a young woman reported to the Public Security Police on the night of October 14 that a man had sexually harassed her earlier that night when she was on her way home in Rua Norte do Patane. She told the police the man suddenly touched her waist from behind, and when she arrived at her building and was entering the door code, the man touched her head, after which he ran away. The victim reported the case to the police after she got home.

The Public Security Police identified Lin and arrested him at his workplace in a shop in Rua do Campo last Monday. Under questioning, Lin admitted that he touched the woman. He claimed that he had been drinking that night and then hung around the streets. He was attracted by the victim who was alone at that time so he touched her under the influence of alcohol, the spokesperson said.

Lin has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to the spokesperson.
