The government will require aspiring applicants of the Young Entrepreneurs Aid Scheme to enrol in business startup courses before they can apply for the loan, Executive Council (ExCo) spokesman Leong Heng Teng said yesterday, adding those who are not just starting out as entrepreneurs will also be eligible to apply for the scheme.

The council is the government’s top advisory body.

According to the website of the government-appointed Talents Development Committee, the government launched the scheme in 2013. The scheme provides an interest-free business start-up loan of up to 300,000 patacas which must be paid back within a maximum period of eight years. The scheme was specially designed for people aged between 21 and 44.
