The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is inviting local performance groups such as registered artistic troupes, schools, community organisations and institutions to register to join the Parade for the Celebration of the Chinese New Year, according to a statement by the office last week.

The statement noted that the parade is slated to be held on two days, February 3 and February 12, featuring highlights like the float parade, cultural and artistic performances, and a float exhibition.

The statement pointed out that the parade’s theme will be based on the zodiac sign of the tiger and “symbolise the revitalisation of Macau’s economy and prosperity of various local industries”, with performances being expected to convey the “vigour and vitality” of the tiger, the flourishing of industries and economic development, among others.

The performance groups will participate in the Float Parade from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on February 3 starting from Sai Van Lake Square, along Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen to the Macau Science Centre, with each group needing to perform for a short period along the parade route, the statement underlined.

The statement noted that MGTO will evaluate applicants and choose groups based on criteria such as their theme and ideas, local distinctive elements, and the groups’ performance experience, adding that the groups will also be granted subsidies for various factors including the content of their proposals and the number of performers.

The statement underlined that further details in Chinese and Portuguese can be found at https://industry.macaotourism.gov.mo/cn/index.php

Moreover, the statement highlighted that interested local performance groups can submit their applications to MGTO on the 12th floor of the Hotline Building in Alameda Dr Carlos d’ Assumpção until November 22. For enquiries, one can contact 8397 1029 or 8397 1008, or email to dtne@macaotourism.gov.mo.

The parade will follow the guidelines of the Health Bureau (SSM) monitor the development of the pandemic situation; the statement emphasised.
