The Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) will make a decision on how to follow up on Wednesday’s invalidation of a land swap deal involving the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory site “and not put things off until next year”, Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario said yesterday.

After attending a plenary session in the Legislative Assembly (AL), the policy secretary was asked by reporters about the Commission Against Corruption’s (CCAC) hard-hitting report on the deal, which was released on Wednesday. The document concluded that a letter of commitment on the deal between the then DSSOPT director Jaime Carion and Baia da Nossa Senhora da Esperanca Development Company in January 2001 is null and void.

By signing the letter of commitment, the government swapped a 152,073-square-metre land plot in Baia de Nossa Senhora da Esperanca with the company for the factory site, which covers an area of 28,340 square metres, the CCAC report said, pointing out that the company, however, held the rights to only 1,655 square metres of the site.
