The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) clarified in a statement yesterday that it has never asked residents for their bank information.

According to the statement, a resident informed the bureau recently that a man had called claiming that he was an official from the bureau. The statement said that the man asked for the resident’s bank information and requested him or her to provide the information by phone.

The statement underlined that the bureau has never asked for residents’ bank information, urging them not to fall for scams.

As scammers have been using various methods to cheat money out of residents, the bureau urged residents to double check the caller’s identity, stressing that residents should never reveal personal information or transfer money to strangers. The bureau urged residents to warn their friends and families about scam calls to increase their awareness. For more information, residents can call 2855 5533 during office hours.
