A local man was arrested in Areia Preta district last Friday for stealing a laptop computer on the previous day in Estrada Marginal do Hipódromo, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The jobless suspect surnamed Lei is in his fifties.
According to Choi, a man reported to the Public Security Police last Friday that his laptop computer worth 5,600 patacas had vanished. He told the police that he put the computer on his motorbike but forgot to take it with him after he had parked the vehicle in Estrada Marginal do Hipódromo in Areia Preta district the previous night. When he returned to his vehicle the next day, the computer was not there.
Choi said that PSP officers scrutinised the area’s CCTV footage and identified Lei as the suspect. The officers arrested Lei in Rua Um do Bairro da Areia Preta last Friday. Under questioning, Lei admitted that he stole the computer and took it home. The officers later seized the computer from Lei’s home.
Lei has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Choi.
