The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement yesterday that the “Light up Macao Drone Gala” will take place during the “Macao Light Festival” next month.

The statement noted that the shows will take place on December 4, 11, 18, 20 and 25, with two sessions, one at 7 p.m. and the other at 9:45 p.m. per night. Each session will last 10 to 15 minutes. Spectators can gather at the Nam Van Lake area and Anim’Arte NAM VAN to watch the shows based on their time slots, the statement added. The show will also be broadcast on various TDM channels and its radio station FM100.7.

Choreographed and synced with music and narration, the statement underlined that the themes for the shows are “Drone Gala Macao Light Festival”, “Charm of Macao”, “Embrace your Journey in Macao”, “Macao Lotus in Full Bloom” and “Christmas in Macao”, also incorporating themes of the anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland.

The statement pointed out that the show will feature “professional drone teams” from mainland China, which include five teams from Beijing, Guangzhou Shenzhen and Tianjin. The teams have staged drone shows at different major occasions, while three have set world records, the statement said.

The statement noted that the show will promote the city as a “safe and quality destination”, as well as integrating sectors of tourism, culture, festivals and sports, as well as showing the “friendship and exchange between Macau and other mainland cities”.

The statement said that MGTO will consider the local observatory’s weather forecast and will, if need be, announce the cancellation or postponement two hours before the show. Meanwhile, vehicle access will be limited from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on show days along Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Nam Van between the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre and Legislative Assembly Building, and pedestrians will be restricted from accessing the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, commonly known as the Old Bridge.

In accordance with the COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, visitors are required to present a valid Macau Health Code, undergo temperature checks, maintain social distancing, and wear a facemask throughout the event.
