Local painter Lio Man Cheong ‘moves forward in the ocean of art’

“Enjoyable Swimming – Lio Man Cheong Artwork Exhibition” (暢游─廖文暢作品展) is on display at the UNESCO Centre of Macau in Nape. The event is sponsored by the Macau Foundation (FM). It is part of the Macau Artists Promotion Project (澳門藝術家推廣計劃), of which Lio is the 98th participant.

According to a statement from the foundation’s website, the exhibition displays 70 paintings themed “Enjoyable Swimming” to express the idea that Lio is constantly moving forward in the ocean of art, enjoying the happy feelings brought about by his artistic creativity. His sincere attitude as well as simple creative style have inspired the public, the statement pointed out.

The statement noted that Lio was born in Zhuhai in 1951 and moved to Macau when he was young. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association (中國美術家協會) and vice-president of the Macau Artist Society (澳門美術協會). The statement underlined that Lio is a painter who uses mainly oils and watercolours for his artworks. Lio has participated in a number of solo exhibitions in Asia, Canada, and Portugal. Lio has been invited by the local post office (CTT) many times to design local stamps. Apart from painting he also teaches art.

The exhibition runs until Sunday in two halls at the UNESCO Centre of Macau at 403 Alameda Dr Carlos d’Assumpção in Nape daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, visitors need to wear facemasks, have their temperature checked and present digital health codes when entering the venue.
