The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement on Saturday that as the COVID-19 pandemic situation continues to stabilise in Macau, the office will host an event in the mainland entitled “Macao Week in Chongqing” from Thursday to Sunday to promote the city as a safe destination.
According to the statement, the event is an effort to attract visitors from the mainland to boost Macau’s economy in general and tourism sector in particular, adding that the event will mark the fifth event this year with previous iterations having been held in Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai.
The statement noted that the event will be held in Jiefangbei Square in Chongqing’s Yuzhong district for five days. The statement added that there will also be a number of themed booths such as the MAK MAK Shop and “A glimpse into Macau Grand Prix Museum”, as well as a “showcase of Macau’s tourism industry”.
The statement underlined that a “mega roadshow” will be an event highlight on December 3 where performances by various singers and performers will be held. The statement added that a seminar to present the city’s “latest tourism situation and promote its tourism resources and products” will also be held, as well as a showcase of Macau’s gastronomy through Macanese and Portuguese buffets by MGTO, the Westin Chongqing Liberation Square, and Macau Cuisine Association.
The statement noted that over “100 million yuan in special travel offers on air tickets, hotel accommodation, dining and more for sale at the roadshow and relevant platforms” will be presented at the event. The statement pointed out that more information is available on MGTO’s official WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu (aka Little Red Book) and Douyin accounts, among other platforms.
The statement emphasised that Chongqing’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention guidelines will be followed during the event by all participants, while also reminding visitors to Macau to follow the pandemic prevention measures issued by the local government before and during their stay.
