The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) continues to promote the “digitalisation of museum resources” by providing virtual tours of some of its museums through a 360 degree “cloud tour”, according to a statement by the bureau on Monday.
The statement noted that the museums that provide the virtual tours are the Macanese Living Museum of Taipa Houses, the Museum of Taipa and Coloane History, the Xian Xinghai Memorial Museum and the Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business. Prior to this, the bureau has already enabled the public to experience virtual tours of the Macau Museum and the Macau Museum of Art (MAM), the statement added.
The statement pointed out that the museum introductions for the virtual tours are provided in traditional Chinese characters, simplified Chinese characters, Portuguese and English. The statement underlined that upon accessing the tours, a “360-degree panoramic view” of the exhibitions is provided by clicking on the mouse or tapping the screen. Moreover, by clicking on the location of the displays, high-definition photos of the exhibits can be viewed along with their descriptions.
The statement said that the bureau will continue to promote the incorporation of museum resources with technology and explore “the addition of online navigation functions for other cultural venues and museums” in an effort to offer a more “interesting cultural experience” to the public, as well as increase cultural promotion and educational content of the museums in Macau.
The statement noted that in order to participate in either of the tours, a specific QR code can be scanned or the website vr.icm.gov.mo can be visited directly, adding that the function is not supported by the Internet Explorer function.
