The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said in a statement yesterday that as the observatory had hoisted a yellow low temperature warning, it has opened its winter shelter in Rua Leste da Ilha Verde until the weather gets warmer.

According to the statement, in order to stay in line with the government’s COVID-19 prevention and control work, the winter shelter will abide by the Health Bureau’s (SSM) guidelines. The statement added that the shelter will have sufficient COVID-19 prevention items. Shelter users must have their temperature checked, display a valid Macau Health Code, wear a facemask, and maintain one-metre social distancing.

The bureau urged residents to pay close attention to senior citizens who are living alone, suffer a chronic disease or have fragile health. For any enquiries about the shelter, residents can call 2827 0939 during office hours or 6399 1963 in non-office hours.

The local observatory (SMG) said in a statement yesterday that “it is expected to be cold in Macau” today. The minimum temperature will be 12°C or below. “The public, especially the elderly, children and persons with chronic illnesses are advised to put on more clothes to keep warm,” the statement said.

At 12:40 a.m. today the mercury fell to 16°C.
