Shenzhen High Great Innovation Technology Development Co. General Manager Leo Li Chenguang told reporters yesterday that the Light Up Macau Drone Gala, which debuts tomorrow, will integrate many Macau elements such as the lotus flower and the city’s mascot “Mak Mak”.
According to Li, the performances will use 300 drones. He also noted that his team tried to use more innovative ways to perform the show, such as using the vertical take-off method instead of the usual hand-throwing off method.
Li also pointed out that unlike the usual static image that drones portray, the performance in Macau will be presented as an animation. “The show begins the moment the drones take off,” Li added.
Reporters asked Li what challenges did the team face when setting up for the drone show. He replied that the electromagnetic environment at Nam Van Lake potentially could have affected the drones’ signal reception, but he was quick to add that his team has solved the problem.
Li said that drones can fly in -20 degrees Celsius and they can endure strong winds so that residents should not worry that the performance would be affected by Macau’s currently rather cold weather.
The first day of the Light Up Macau Drone Gala will take place tomorrow at 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. near Nam Van Lake. Each show will last about 15 minutes. More shows will be held during the month.
In line with the government’s pandemic prevention measures, crowd management measures will be implemented at all the events, which will require participants to wear a facemask, present a valid Macau Health Code, undergo temperature checks and maintain at least one-metre social distancing.
