The 24th Lusofonia Festival is set to take place from Friday to Sunday at the Taipa Houses, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.
The statement noted that the three-day event is organised by the bureau in conjunction with the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO). Admission is free.
Various booths from Macau’s Portuguese-speaking communities from 10 countries or regions will be set up to introduce their “traditional music, arts and crafts, costumes, literature and gastronomy”, the statement underlined.
The statement pointed out that performances of different styles of music and dance from about 30 local Portuguese-speaking performing groups, as well as the Dongguan Kylin Dance Group from Guangdong province, will take place on the festival’s main stage. There will also be “soft music” showcased on a stage in Carmo Square.
Moreover, the bureau said that they will set up booths for photo-taking and for purchasing IC publications at discounted prizes, as well as for games where participants may win prizes including a limited-edition memo pad in celebration of the Taipa Houses 100th anniversary.
The statement noted that visitors can participate in traditional Portuguese games such as wooden ski run and tug-of-war in Carmo Square on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, adding that winners can win “bottles of wine, codfish, tinned sardines and Portuguese chouriço [pork sausages]”. There will also be table football tournaments for those aged 16 and above or 15 and below, as well as a recreational space for children.
A temporary restaurant serving Portuguese dishes for lunch and dinner will be set up in the Taipa Municipal Garden, while dinner “specialties of various Portuguese-speaking countries [and] regions” will be offered in Carmo Square.
The statement emphasised that the bureau will ensure that the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures are followed, requiring participants to wear a facemask, undergo temperature checks, present a valid health code and follow crowd control measures.
