Suspects are a civil servant & a daycare teacher
A local man was arrested for stealing a MACAU Pass from the helmet top box of a scooter and giving it to his son to use, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The 59-year-old suspect surnamed Chao told the police that he is a civil servant. His son is aged 20.
According to Wong, the female victim told the police on August 4 that she had parked her scooter in Travessa da Sé on July 27 with her raincoat and MACAU Pass in the helmet top box. She later discovered that her MACAU Pass had vanished and when checking the balance she discovered 14 transactions on her card between August 1 and 4, spending a total of 250 patacas.
Wong said PSP officers discovered that the card was used in the Horta da Mitra and Camões Garden areas, and thanks to CCTV footage they identified Chao’s son as the possible culprit.
PSP officers went to Chao’s flat in Travessa da Sé on Sunday afternoon. Chao admitted that he stole the MACAU Pass from the victim’s helmet top box when he parked his scooter in the evening on July 27. He was trying to move the victim’s scooter and found her helmet top box was unlocked so he stole the raincoat and the MACAU Pass. Chao gave the pass to his son for use the next day but without telling him how he got it.
The father and son have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further questioning. Chao faces a theft charge, according to Wong.
Female nursery daycare teacher steals ‘siu fai kat’
A woman was arrested on Monday for stealing a government-issued consumption subsidy smartcard, and after telling her husband, they spent nearly 900 patacas of the card within three days, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The local couple comprise a 40-year-old woman surnamed Leong who works as a nursery daycare teacher and her 55-year-old husband surnamed Ieong who was in the mainland when the police arrested Leong on Monday. Wong did not reveal the male suspect’s occupation.
According to Wong, a male victim reported to the police on August 3 that he had lost his card (colloquially known as “siu fai kat” in Cantonese) with the full balance of 5,000 patacas, which was given to him by his daughter. After checking the balance, he found that it only contained 4,126 patacas so he suspected that his card had been stolen. PSP officers discovered the card’s 12 transaction records from August 1 to 3 totalling about 870 patacas for in shops in Avenida do Almirante Lacerda and Rua do Campo.
Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers intercepted Leong in Avenida Marginal do Lam Mou at on Monday evening. Under questioning, Leong admitted that she had picked up the “siu fai kat” in the sitting-out area in Avenida Marginal do Lam Mou. She went home and after talking to her husband, they decided to shop together. At the time of the press conference, her husband was still in the mainland. The police were waiting for him to return so that they could question him about the case.
Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Wong.
