Two local men were arrested on Monday for taking and selling drugs, involving 37.74 grammes of ice with an estimated market value of 125,000 patacas which were seized by the police, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at yesterday’s special press briefing.

The suspects are a 62-year-old jobless man surnamed Cheuk and a 34-year-old deliveryman surnamed Chan.

According to Chan, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off a week ago that some people were selling drugs in the northern district. PJ officers identified Cheuk as one of the suspects and located him. The officers arrested him outside a residential building where he lives on Monday afternoon and seized 11 packets of ice weighing a total of 7.75 grammes as well as some drug-taking paraphernalia at his home.

Chan said that the officers obtained information provided by Cheuk about a senior gang member surnamed Chan and later arrested him in the northern district. The officers seized 29.99 grammes of ice from his home in the neighbourhood.

Under questioning, Cheuk admitted that he takes drugs and bought the ice from Chan who refused to explain the source of the drugs to the police. Both tested positive for drugs, Chan said.

The duo were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday morning, facing charges of selling and taking narcotics and psychotropic substances, and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia, according to Chan.
