Macau’s 1st IMAX® with Laser & MX4D Motion theatres open at Lisboeta

Hong Kong’s Emperor Cinemas officially opened Macau’s first IMAX® with Laser and MX4D Motion EFX theatres yesterday, as well as VIP House – the CORONET, at Lisboeta Macau in Cotai. 

The cinema operator showed the three cinemas to the media yesterday afternoon. 

According to a statement by the operator, the cineplex on the second floor of Lisboeta Macau consists of nine theatres and has about 1,200 seats in total. 

The statement pointed out that the IMAX cinema is equipped with a 12.0 surround sound system and “IMAX® with Laser” projection technology. The IMAX screen is 23 metres wide and 12 metres high. 

The statement underlined that the “MX4D motion EFX Theatre” has been developed by US-based firm MediaMotion, while House 6 is the only cinema in Macau with a “Dolby Atmos” panoramic sound system which provides the feeling of 360o dynamics and precise sound effects.


IMAX® with Laser Theatre characteristics

According to the statement, the main characteristics of the IMAXR Laser Theatre are its unrivalled sharpness in which viewers can experience a sharper and clearer picture that delivers a realism on bigger screens; enhanced brightness from laser which brings an increased level of brightness; ultimate contrast which draws the viewers into the movie; nuanced colours with range of shades and hues by the IMAX® laser system; crystal-clear sound thanks to its 12-channel immersive sound system which delivers high-fidelity sound effects. 


MX4D Motion EFX Theatre characteristics

The statement said that the cinema’s motion effects are specifically designed to match various movies. Specially designed seats are equipped with cutting-edge technology. 

The statement underlined that its main characteristics are 3-plane dynamic effect seats which are capable of producing free motions in three planes, including up-down, left-right, and front-back; multi-layered experience across four senses which stimulate visual, audio, touch, and smell senses; more than 10 types of close-to-real 4D effects such as wind, strobe (regular flashes of light), back poking, neck tickling, leg tickling, vibrations; tailor-made effect programming in which every single film’s programming is custom-made to integrate seat motion and 4D effects with movie plots. 

IMAX is a proprietary system of high-resolution cameras, film formats, film projectors, and cinemas known for having very large screens with a tall aspect ratio and steep stadium seating.
