Chris Pang Ieng Chon, an operations manager at Daiso, the Japanese budget shop, said yesterday there has been a trend by local residents of bringing their own bags rather than opting for a plastic carrier bag.

Pang made the remarks to reporters at a Daiso outlet in Taipa.

The shop has joined an activity organised by the Environment Protection Bureau (DSPA) which aims to encourage customers to reduce the use of plastic carrier bags.

The bureau yesterday arranged for the media to visit the outlet, which joined the activity last month.
