A male Vietnamese non-resident worker was arrested on Monday for selling drugs in the Rua do Campo neighbourhood recently. Two packets of ice weighing a total of 1.1 grammes with an estimated market price of 3,300 patacas and 10,000 patacas in cash suspected to be drug money were seized from the suspect, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press conference yesterday.

The 21-year-old surnamed Do told the police that he works as a cleaner while a 28-year-old Vietnamese jobless woman surnamed Do was intercepted during the operation.

According to Ho, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off recently that a Vietnamese man and a woman were selling drugs to regular customers at night entertainment venues in the Rua do Campo neighbourhood. PJ officers identified the duo as the suspects and put them under surveillance near Travessa dos Anjos (天神巷) on Monday. The male suspect appeared at the scene in the afternoon, carrying a take-away bag with a box of noodles inside, appearing to be nervous. The officers arrested him and found two packets of ice weighing 1.1 grammes from him. The officers later went to Do’s home in Rua Formosa (美麗街) where they found some drugs packaging tools and the Vietnamese female suspect. Under questioning, the duo refused to cooperate with the police. The Judiciary Police discovered that the woman was involved in another drug case in April this year. PJ officers believe that the duo had been selling drugs for at least one month.

The male suspect was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a drug trafficking charge, according to Ho.
