The Public Security Police (PSP) said yesterday that a hearing-impaired man who held a 28-year-old woman hostage in a takeaway shop in the Mong Ha neighbourhood on Saturday had three knives on him, PSP spokesman Choi Iok Kin said in a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Choi, the suspect is in his fifties surnamed Tam. His occupation was not released. The victim’s surname was not released either. Both are locals.
The incident happened on Saturday night in a takeaway shop of the Trust Legend residential estate in Mong Ha. Tam who was brandishing a knife went to the shop where he spoke to a couple who, however, did not respond. Then Tam suddenly seized the female victim. The woman was scared that Tam would hurt her and therefore did not resist, Choi said.
