The government has appointed Chan Un Tong, a deputy director of the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), as the bureau’s director effective from Tuesday next week, succeeding Wong Chi Hong who has headed the bureau since April 2012.

Chan’s one-year appointment, which will start on March 18, has been made through an executive order by Secretary for Economy and Finance Anton Tai Kin Ip published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday. Tai signed the order on February 28.

The bureau has two deputy directors in its organisational structure.

Chan has been a deputy director of the bureau since May 2016.

According to Tai’s executive order, Chan holds a bachelor’s degree in Economic Law from Jinan University in Guangzhou.

Chan joined the public administration in 2002 when he started working in the Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ), before joining the Labour Affairs Bureau in 2005.

The other deputy director of the Labour Affairs Bureau is Chan Chon U, who took office in April 2021.

Meanwhile, the government has appointed Chan Tze Wai, currently a deputy director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), as a deputy director of the Labour Affairs Bureau also effective from Tuesday next week, filling the vacancy to be left by Chan Un Tong who will then be promoted to the bureau’s director at that time.

Chan Tze Wai’s appointment is scheduled to also last one year, and can be renewed upon expiration. Her appointment has been made through a separate executive order by Tai published in the gazette yesterday.

According to Tai’s executive order, Chan Tze Wai holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Jinan University.

Chan Tze Wai joined the public administration in 1991 when she started working in the then Economic Services Bureau (DSE), the predecessor of the current DSEDT, where she became a department chief in 2006, before being promoted to a deputy director in 2011.

The bureau was upgraded to the current DSEDT in February 2021.

The bureau also has two deputy directors in its organisational structure.
