Macau’s visitor arrivals rose by 144.1 percent month-on-month to 801,300 in November, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.

A DSEC statement attributed the strong growth to the hosting of tourism events such as the Macau Grand Prix and Macau Food Festival last month.

Year-on-year, last month’s visitor arrivals increased by 25.9 percent.

Same-day visitors rose year-on-year by 64.4 percent to 513,887 in November, while overnight visitors fell by 11.2 percent to 287,413.

Mainlanders accounted for 92.5 percent of all visitors in November. Besides, there were 54,655 visitors from Hong Kong and 5,297 from Taiwan.

Due to Macau’s strict COVID-19 prevention and control measures, foreign nationals without the right of abode in Macau have been barred from entering the city since March last year. Special entry rules have been imposed on compatriots from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In the first 11 months of the year, visitor arrivals grew by 31.5 percent year-on-year to 6.88 million.
