Macau's government offices will remain closed through Friday, according to an executive order by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng.

The order was published in the Official Gazette (BO) of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) this afternoon.

According to the order, government offices will remain closed until Friday inclusive, except for those providing "urgent and indispensable" services to the public.

In response to Macau's latest COVID-19 outbreak, which was detected on Saturday, government offices were initially closed yesterday and today.

The government declared early Sunday a "state of immediate prevention," which allows it to impose a string of restrictions on the public.

The tally of the current COVID-19 outbreak reached 49 this afternoon, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced this afternoon.

A dozen buildings and shops have been locked down since Sunday. Casino-hotel Fortuna in the Outer Harbour Land Reclamation Zone (Zape) was locked down today. Health Bureau (SSM) Director Alvis Lo Iek Long said at a regular press conference this afternoon that about 300 guests and around 80 staff were believed to be in the hotel when it was sealed off.
