The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has announced in a statement that the “Macau Light Festival 2021 – Travellers from Mars” will continue until January 2.

The Christmas Day statement noted that two of the light festival’s four “themed projection mapping shows” are being held in Taipa and Coloane, with a team from Tokyo’s performance team presenting “GLID” in Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa, while a local team is showing “In Pair” at Chapel of St. Francis Xavier in Coloane.

The statement added that as the team from Tokyo could not come to Macau due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, its production has been handed to a local coordinator through the internet to assist with projection mapping.

The statement underlined that the “House of Popular Slangs” at Carmo Fair, “Cosmic Kaleidoscope” at the Vila da Taipa Historical Centre Archway, “Weekend Love” at the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier and Largo Eduardo Marques and the “Sand Painting in Light” in Largo do Bazar will continue to engage communities in Taipa and Coloane.

Running until January 2, the statement pointed out that the “Macau Light Festival 2021 – Travellers from Mars” takes place in 17 locations across seven districts from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the last projection mapping show starting at 9:50 p.m. each night.

Further details about the programme can be found by visiting mlf.macaotourism.gov.mo/index_en.html and the official WeChat ID.

The statement emphasised that the event will follow the COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures set up by the Health Bureau (SSM), adding that there will be designated entrances and exits for crowd management purposes. Moreover, spectators must queue for admission and wear a facemask, present a valid Macau Health Code, undergo temperature checks and maintain at least one-metre social distancing. Spectators may also scan the on-site venue codes through the Macau Health Code app, the statement said.
