One more arrival from the United States has tested positive for COVD-19, Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced today.
The centre classified the case as an imported and asymptomatic case, because of which it will not be added the Macau's novel coronavirus tally, which therefore remains at 78.
According to a statement by the centre, the patient is a 62-year-old male resident who had received three shots of the US-made COVID-19 vaccine Moderna, in February, March and November respectively. He tested negative for COVID-19 in the US on Christmas Eve. He departed from Los Angeles to Singapore on Christmas Day and took a connecting flight from Singapore to Macau on Monday where he tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival.
The centre said that at the time of its statement, which was released this morning, the patient did not show any suspected COVID-19 symptoms. Consequently, the case has not been added to Macau's COVID-19 tally. The statement did not identify the patient's COVID-19 variant.
Macau confirmed its first Omicron variant case on Monday, when its COVID-19 tally rose to 78. That patient, a local 23-year-old resident studying in New York, also arrived in Macau via Singapore from the US. He has meanwhile come down with pneumonia caused by COVID-19.
Macau confirmed its first novel coronavirus case on January 22 last year. No COVID-19 death has been reported in Macau.
Foreign nationals without the right of abode in Macau have been barred from entering the city since March last year.
The world's COVID-19 tally amounts to over 280 million, including more than 5.4 million deaths, according to worldometers.info.
