The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that a three-metre-long python was found at a construction site on Estrada da Barragem de Ká Hó.
According to the statement, IAM officials quickly arrived at the scene to capture the snake after firefighters informed the bureau that a python had been spotted in Ka-Ho. The statement noted that after a preliminary checkup, the python appeared to be healthy and had no injuries. However, the statement added that as the size of the snake is relatively large, the bureau decided not to release the python back into the wild but that it would being taken care of by the bureau.
The python (蟒蛇) is a National Second-Class Protected Species, an IAM official told the local media last night, adding that it is the largest snake species indigenous to Macau.
The python is a genus of constricting snakes in the Pythonidae family native to the tropics and subtropics of the Eastern Hemisphere.
The bureau urged residents that if they find any snakes, they should maintain a safe distance and call the bureau on 2833 7676 if necessary.
