The Macau Economic and Commercial Office (DECM) in Lisbon said in a statement last night that the office is providing a home visit service for senior citizens from the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) living in Lisbon to register for their proof of life.
According to the statement, the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Europe is serious, especially in Portugal where due to the Christmas and New Year holidays people clusters have caused a surge in the number of Omicron cases. The statement noted that in Portugal there are currently over 20,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases per day, 90 percent of which have the Omicron variant.
The statement pointed out that in order to strictly abide by the Portuguese government’s novel coronavirus prevention and control measures, the office allows Macau senior citizen living in Portugal to email or telephone it to cut down on the administrative procedures. The statement underlined that the office also provides a new service in which a staff member will visit the homes of senior citizen with disabilities living in Lisbon to assist them in registering for their proof of life so that they can continue to receive their pensions paid by the MSAR government. Proof of file registration is required every January for all pensioners.
The statement noted that every year there are a few hundred Macau citizens living in Lisbon who seek assistance from the office to register their proof of life. As the government has launched its “Common Access to Public Services of the MSAR”, the office has been showing the Macau citizens how to operate the application.
