A local male taxi driver was arrested last Wednesday in a police station for attacking his wife last month at their home in Seac Pai Van Public Housing Estate in Coloane, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said at a press conference last Friday.
The 66-year-old local suspect surnamed Chao told the police that he is a taxi driver. The victim (Chao’s wife) is a local woman in her forties. The couple have been married for 14 years and are living in a flat in Seac Pai Van in Coloane.
According to Leng, a local woman reported to the Judiciary Police last Tuesday that her husband had attacked her a week ago. She told the police that her husband was arrested last June for attacking her, and the case was awaiting trial. She said that her husband’s behaviour had temporarily improved after he was charged, but that their relationship started to deteriorate again last month. They often quarrelled on trivial matters and financial problems; she told the police.
She also said that her husband had tried to force her to quit her job so that she could take care of the family, but when she refused her husband pulled her hair and threatened that he would commit suicide. She finally decided last Tuesday to report the case to the police.
Leng said that the Judiciary Police told Chao to report to a police station last Wednesday for questioning. Chao went to the police station but refused to cooperate with the police. The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
Chao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a domestic violence charge, according to Leng.
