A man from the mainland was arrested on New Year’s Eve in a supermarket in Avenida de Kwong Tung in Taipa for upskirting a Hong Kong woman there, Public Security Police (PSP) Wong Wai Chon said at a press briefing on Friday.
The 31-year-old suspect surnamed Xie told the police that he is unemployed.
According to Wong, on New Year’s Eve at about 1 p.m., a man was upskirting a woman in the supermarket when an off-duty PSP officer was walking through the shop. He saw the suspect filming the woman’s back and buttocks. The officer identified himself and arrested the man.
Wong said that PSP officers discovered that Xie had entered Macau from the mainland on December 28, and they discovered 633 upskirts on his smartphone, all of them taken in Macau. Wong said that Xie had taken 12 upskirts of his latest victim. Xie told the police that he has the habit of taking upskirts of women’s backs and buttocks. He said that he was attracted to the victim so he followed her into the supermarket and took upskirts of her.
Xie has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an illegal recording charge, according to Wong.
