An exhibition entitled “The Language of Seng – Ceramic Art Exhibition of Seng’s Childhood World” (“成”語陶藝展 – 謝健成的兒時世界) is on display until January 28 at 10 Fantasia in S. Lázaro district. There are more than 40 potteries on display, according to a statement by 10 Fantasia - A Creative Industries Incubator.
The exhibition is co-hosted by the Macau Sculpture Association (澳門雕塑學會) and So Inclusive Arts for Disabilities Association (融義展能藝術協會) in conjunction with the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) (澳門特殊奧運會), 10 Fantasia-A Creative Industries Incubator (瘋堂十號創意園) and the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District; sponsored by Macau Foundation (FM).
According to the statement, the exhibition aims to promote artworks made by people with intellectual disabilities to the public. The statement said that this exhibition showcases the artwork by one of the local trainees with an intellectual disability by the name of Che Kin Seng (謝健成) and features his pottery works from the earliest approach to the latest. Moreover, the statement underlined that people with intellectual disabilities connect and communicate with the world through art. The exhibition aims to convince the public to accept and understand people with intellectual disabilities, and also to build an art space together with them.
The statement noted that Che was diagnosed with a moderate intellectual disability and was transferred to the Macau Special Olympics for training after graduating from a local special school.
Tutors discovered that Che has a talent for making pottery, therefore, they helped him to open a new chapter in his life. The statement pointed out that Che is able to make “unique” and “colourful” potteries with the guidance from his tutors, adding that he enjoys making pottery from the things he observes in life, and in his imaginary life.
According to the statement, there are six series of pottery works on display such as “Seng’s Siu Mei” (健成燒味), “Terracotta Warriors” (兵馬俑), “Gifts from the Animal World” (來自動物世界的禮物), and “Animal Goblin” (動物妖精).
The exhibition runs until January 28 in Room B05, at 10 Fantasia, which opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed in Mondays), at 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.
