An exhibition entitled “Timeless Time” (無時之時) by local artist James Chu Cheok Son (朱焯信) is on display at Arts For All Society (AFA) gallery until January 31, organised by AFA and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM).

“Timeless Time” is part of the AFA Artists Exhibitions Series II: “Cross-Generations Imagery”.

Curator On Chi (安止) said in a statement based on a conversation with Chu in which he asked the artist about the exhibition’s objective. “I don’t know how to say…, maybe it’s about time”, Chu responded.

The statement added that one of the most remarkable times was when Chu, in his youth, wore black and white clothes and smoked a pack of Korean cigarettes branded “TIMES” with the subtitle stating that “Timeless Time”, which is also the source of the exhibition’s title.

There are 11 art pieces with different styles that have been created with various art mediums. They consist of ceramics, colour dyes on a towel, and mixed media paintings.

According to the statement, On Chi asked Chu, “What exactly are artists thinking?” Chu said that he has not been painting much these six years, adding that his ideas changed over time and would only become actual artworks when he started to draw on paper.

Chu has won more than 50 international Design and Art awards such as the 5th Macau Design Biennale – Distinction Award. Chu’s work has been collected by the Macau Museum of Art (MAM), Philippe Charriol Foundation, Hong Kong Hyatt Hotel, and over 30 private collectors from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, the UK, US, Singapore, and Japan.

The exhibition runs until January 31 at AFA Macau in the 1st floor gallery of Tak Chun Macau Art Garden at 265 Avenida do Dr Rodrigo Rodrigues. It is open daily (except Sundays and public holidays) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the gallery need to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a valid health code.
