The Public Security Police (PSP), Macau Customs Service and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a joint statement yesterday that they inspected a number of shops earlier this week to check if they were illegally selling fireworks and firecrackers.
According to the statement, the three authorities inspected 76 shops that sell Chinese New Year (CNY) products and incense on Monday and Tuesday. The statement noted that they found six shops that occupied public spaces to sell items and two shops that were unable to show the tax registration for their business. The statement added that the cases have been transferred to relevant bureaus for follow-up.
The statement did not mention whether any illegal sales of pyrotechnics were discovered.
Meanwhile, the police urged residents and visitors not to illegally let off fireworks and firecrackers, adding that the offenders could face a fine up to 20,000 patacas. The statement also said that those who injure others or cause property damage when illegally letting off fireworks and firecrackers would have to face the legal consequences. The statement underlined that those who illegally import pyrotechnics would also face penalties.
