The Year of the Ox bids farewell and the Year of the Tiger welcomes the spring. At this wonderful moment of joy and reunion, on behalf of the government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), I would like to extend my New Year's greetings to all Macau residents and all friends who care about and support the development of Macau! Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year!
Looking back on the past year, we have stood together in the same boat, faced difficulties, worked together to deal with difficulties and challenges, and steadily advanced various construction projects in the MSAR. In the outgoing year, we have united our will to build a safety barrier for epidemic prevention and anti-epidemic measures, and to realise the overall trend of economic development that is stable and improving; the 7th Legislative Assembly (AL) election fully demonstrated the fundamental principle of "patriots governing Macau", and the legal system and enforcement mechanism for safeguarding national security were further improved. The construction of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone has started well, and Macau has taken a new step in integrating itself into the overall development of the country.
The global novel pneumonia epidemic continues to spread. Earlier, there were repeated outbreaks in neighbouring areas, but under the strong leadership of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Provincial Government, timely and efficient measures were taken to quickly contain the spread of the epidemic. Macau and Zhuhai have worked closely together to give full play to the role of the Macau-Zhuhai joint epidemic prevention and control mechanism, and both are committed to ensuring that the majority of residents enjoy the Spring Festival in safety. Here, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government and the Zhuhai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
In the past year, affected by the epidemic, residents and all walks of life have faced unprecedented difficulties and pressure, but all sectors of Macau and residents have united as one to overcome the difficulties. The majority of residents are the biggest contributors to maintaining economic stability and successful epidemic prevention. Here, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the vast number of Macau residents.
In the future, we must still maintain a high degree of vigilance at all times, build a strong epidemic prevention and control system, and must not be paralysed. We will continue to strengthen cooperation with neighbouring regions to fight the epidemic, and do a good job at epidemic prevention in a strict, meticulous, scientific and precise manner. Here, I also once again call on all residents to take personal protection as always, and be cautious as before.
The Ox bids farewell to the old year, and the Tiger starts the new journey. In the new year, we must stand tall and look far, concentrate on our efforts, work hard, take advantage of the general trend of national development, and promote Macau's unique advantages, unremittingly coordinate the economic recovery and epidemic prevention and control work, speed up the appropriate diversification of the economy, optimise the development of society and people's livelihood, deepen the reform of the Public Administration, promote the development of Hengqin, better integrate into the overall development of the country, and continue to promote Macau’s special characteristics. A new chapter in the successful practice of "One Country, Two Systems” will be written.
In a few days, the grand opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which we all look forward to, will bring more excitement and joy to everyone during the Spring Festival. Here, we wish the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics a wonderful, extraordinary, outstanding and complete success!
Finally, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the public servants and people from all walks of life who stay in their posts during the Spring Festival. I would like to extend my sincere festive greetings to all Macau residents and friends who work and live in as well as visit Macau. I sincerely wish the motherland a prosperity I wish the MSAR peace and progress!
