Macau's Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has issued its Yellow Cold Weather Alert as the mercury dropped to 10 degrees Celsius this morning.

The temperature stood at 11 degrees C at 12:45 p.m.

The observatory has a two-level alert system for cold weather: "Yellow" for "cold" and "Orange" for "very cold" weather. The government's cold-weather shelter opens when at the least the Yellow warning has been issued.

"It is expected to be cold in Macau continuously in the next couple of days," the weather station forecast, urging the public "to put on more clothes to keep warm."

The observatory also said that a winter monsoon will continue to affect Macau, predicting that the minimum temperature will remain at between 10 and 12 degrees C during the week.

"Since the weather will be cloudy and rainy during the Lunar New Year holidays (February 1-3), the perceived temperature will be much lower than the actual temperature," the statement said.

The station also said that relative humidity will range between 75 percent and 98 percent today.
