The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced last week that its second and last Chinese New Year of the Tiger float parade will start at 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, in the northern district.
According to the statement, this year’s last CNY parade featuring cultural and artistic performances will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Iao Hon Market Garden.
A fireworks display near Macau Tower is scheduled for 9 p.m. today, marking Everyone’s Birthday (“renri” in Putonghua), and for the Lantern Festival next Tuesday, also starting at 9 p.m.
Everyone’s Birthday, i.e. the symbolic birth of humanity, takes place annually on the seventh day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
Meanwhile, 14 floats will be on display at the seafront next to Macau Science Centre until Friday, as well as in Praça do Tap Seac from February 13-20.
The statement reminded that the public can join an online game and vote for the “most beautiful floats” until February 20, with participants who log into the game daily able to earn e-coupons and gold ingots. Moreover, participants can earn 10 more gold ingots to redeem more gifts and e-coupons during the second float parade.
Spectators’ opinions on the parades will be collected by MGTO until February 20 by scanning an on-site QR code for an electronic questionnaire during the two parades and two float exhibitions or an online questionnaire on the parades’ promotional website and online game page, the statement underlined.
The first float parade was held last Thursday, along with local performances and a 15-minute fireworks display themed “Tiger Roars for Success of the Olympic Winter Games”. The statement underlined that its opening ceremony in Sai Van Lake Square was officiated by several guests such as Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, Chief of Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance Ku Mei Leng and MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, the statement pointed out, spectators must present a valid Macau Health Code, scan the venue code, undergo temperature checks, maintain social distancing, and wear a facemask upon admission to designated areas.
