According to the Macau Government Tourism Office’s (MGTO) data plus website, Macau had recorded a 23.6 percent increase in total visitor arrivals compared to last year as of yesterday, the 6th day of the Chinese New Year’s (CNY) Golden Week.
The Chinese New Year of the Tiger’s Golden Week, which began last Monday, ends today.
From January 31 to yesterday, a total of 95,696 visitor arrivals were recorded, with a daily average of 15,949, a 23.2 percent increase from last year’s CNY Golden Week.
Moreover, visitor arrivals from the mainland totalled 89,245 by yesterday, an increase by 26.8 percent from last year’s comparable holiday period. The total daily average of visitors from the mainland was 14,874, an increase of 26.6 percent compared to last year’s period.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement last week, MGTO said that efforts will be focused on “three major strategies” this year, i.e., expanding Macau’s visitor source, encouraging the city’s tourism revival and stimulating the community economy.
The statement noted that the strategies comprise strengthening online and offline promotions, deepening cross-sector integration of “tourism +” and deepening regional cooperation to “enhance destination glamour”.
