Macau logs over 113,000 visitors during CNY: MGTO

According to a statement by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) yesterday, Macau recorded a total of over 113,000 visitors while hotels registered a 63.8 percent average room occupancy rate over the Chinese New Year’s (CNY) Golden Week.

The statement pointed out that Macau’s total number of visitor arrivals during the Golden Week from January 31 to February 6 numbered 113,699, while the average number of daily visitor arrivals stood at 16,242. Visitors increased by 25.4 percent compared to last year’s CNY Golden Week.

The fourth day of the CNY Golden Week recorded the highest daily number of visitors, with the city welcoming nearly 22,000 visitors, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the statement underlined that hotels, apartment hotels and inns recorded an average daily occupancy rate of 63.8 percent, increasing by 15.2 percentage points compared to last year’s CNY holiday period.

The statement added that the average occupancy rate recorded by five-star hotels was 70.3 percent, an increase of 19.3 percentage points; 53.5 percent for four-star hotels, up 3.6 percentage points; 59.2 percent for three-star hotels, up 14 percentage points; 31.6 percent for two-star hotels, up 9.2 percentage points; and 60 percent for apartment hotels, a decrease of 6.8 percentage points; while the average occupancy rate of inns, officially called low-cost accommodation establishments, increased by 13.1 percentage points to 44.1 percent.

Moreover, the statement said that hotels and inns’ average rate per room was around 1,096 patacas, down by 11.8 percent.

The statement added that the average rate per room for five-star hotels was 1,191 patacas, down by 18.4 percent, while for four-star hotels it was 642.50 patacas, down 12.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the average room rates for three-star hotels were 580 patacas, down by 19.5 percent; they were 189.90 patacas for two-star hotels, down by 8.5 percent; for apartment hotels, they were 4,474.90 patacas, which was up by 0.2 percent, while low-cost accommodation was 167.50 patacas, the same as last year.
