A local Portuguese man was caught for driving under the influence (DUI) early last Thursday in Rua de Malaca (馬六甲街), Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a press briefing on Monday.
According to Lam, the 37-year-old suspect surnamed Souza told the police that he works as a football coach.
Lam said that the Public Security Police received a report last Thursday about a traffic accident in which a car rear-ended a taxi in Rua de Malaca. The officers arrived at the scene and found Souza reeking of alcohol and gave him a breathalyser test which showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.62 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
Consequently, Souza requested a blood test at a hospital to disprove the breathalyser test result, but the result was 1.66 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood. Under questioning, Souza admitted that he had been drinking in a bar earlier that day, Lam said.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) awaiting trial, according to Lam.
