A woman from the mainland was arrested on February 6 for stealing a pair of sunglasses the previous day in a shop of a hotel-casino resort in Cotai, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Kam Ka Kit said at a press conference yesterday.

The 38-year-old suspect surnamed Liu told the police that she is unemployed.

According to Kam, a staff member of the shop reported to the police on February 5 that the staff discovered during stock taking that a pair of sunglasses worth 2,950 patacas had vanished.

PSP officers scrutinised the CCTV footage of the shop and nearby area and identified Liu as the suspect. The officers discovered that Liu took a taxi to another hotel in Cotai after stealing the pair of shades. The officers went to the hotel the following day, and with the assistance of a hotel security guard arrested Liu in her guestroom. The officers found the pair of sunspecs in the room. Under questioning, Liu admitted to stealing the sunglasses out of greed, Kam said.

Liu was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) last Monday, facing a theft charge, according to Kam.
