The local MTel Telecommunication Company Limited hosted a media banquet at L’Arc Hotel last night.
Talking to reporters, MTel Chairman and CEO Michael Choi Tak Meng urged the government to release relevant regulations to allow the further development of technology and telecommunication services in the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Choi made the remarks before the banquet.
Choi told reporters that his company’s network coverage in residential buildings has reached about 99 percent, adding that his company has a network coverage rate of about 50 percent for enterprise users in the city.
Choi, MTel guests and employees as well as media representatives attended the banquet.
A statement by MTel quoted Choi as saying that his company aims to seek innovation and introduce new generation fibre-optic services to Macau. The statement stressed that MTel’s fibre-optic network service is an independent network.
The statement underlined that MTel further increased the discount rate and speed of its general enterprise broadband service earlier this month, in order to reduce the burden of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), adding that 200 MB is available for 590 patacas.
MTel has set up its new hotline customer service number – 123, the statement noted.
The statement also quoted Choi as saying that MTel fully cooperates with the government’s policies and arrangements, works in accordance with licence regulations and in cooperation with government departments.
MTel will set up a service network centre this year to provide “high-quality” network security services for society, according to the statement. Moreover, MTel will open its third shop in the northern district by the end of March, according to the statement.
The statement noted that MTel will launch an “MTel Cloud” which aims to provide high-performance and advanced cloud-network convergence services.
