A man from the mainland was arrested at his home in Rua de Bragança in Taipa last Thursday for upskirting three schoolgirls while they were on an escalator to cross a footbridge in Taipa earlier that day, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said at a press briefing on Friday.
The 31-year-old suspect surnamed Chen told the police that he is a non-resident worker in the construction sector.
According to Lou, three 16-year-old schoolgirls attending a secondary school in Taipa told their school last Thursday that a man took upskirts of them when they were on an escalator of a footbridge in Taipa earlier that day. The school reported the case to the Judiciary Police later that day.
Lou said that PJ officers scrutinised CCTV footage from the area and identified Chen as the suspect. The officers discovered that he had been looking for “victims” near the footbridge that day. When he saw the schoolgirls, he immediately followed them and took upskirts of them when they were on the escalator. The Judiciary Police arrested Chen at his home that night and retrieved 122 upskirt videos from three smartphones and a computer tablet including the video of the three schoolgirls.
According to Lou, Chen admitted to taking upskirts about six to seven times. He told the police that he has worked in Macau for two years and last month he became unhappy with both his work and family so he decided to take upskirts. The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation and are looking for the other victims.
Chen has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Lou.
