Lawmakers in Beijing review draft for Macau to elect deputies to 14th NPC

BEIJING – The National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, deliberated today a draft method for the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) to elect its deputies to the 14th NPC.

Wang Chen, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, delivered an explanatory speech on the draft at the opening meeting of the fifth session of the 13th NPC which began in 2018 and ends next year.

The MSAR has 12 NPC deputies.

The NPC opened its annual session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing this morning. President Xi Jinping and other national leaders attended the fifth session of the 13th NPC.

Premier Li Keqiang delivered the annual government report on behalf of the State Council at the opening of the session. The central government set its gross domestic product (GDP) growth target at 5.5 percent, the ratio of the deficit-to-GDP at 2.8 percent and its inflation target, based on the increase in the consumer price index (CPI), at around 3 percent. – Xinhua, MPD
