The enhancement work for barrier-free facilities at the Xian Xinghai Memorial Museum has been completed, with a lifting platform installed for those with mobility difficulties and others who might require it, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday.

Xian Xinghai (1905-1945) was a Macau-born composer who, according to Wikipedia, was among the first composers in his country to employ western classical music, influencing a number of future Chinese musicians. He is referred to as the “son of Macau” and “musician of the people” in the bureau’s statement.

Located in Rua de Francisco Xavier, the statement noted that the museum is divided into various sections, which include an “exhibition room, discovery corner, multi-purpose hall, nursing room and courtyard”.

The statement added that the museum showcases Xian Xinghai’s life and artistic achievements and also includes a “knowledge zone” for children to learn music facts and a “multimedia discovery corner” to enable the public to have a “conducting experience”.

The statement pointed out that except for Tuesdays, the museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., including public holidays, with free admission. Guided tours are also available on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Further information can be found through contacting the bureau on 2845 0062 or 8988 4000 during office hours, or visiting their website at www.icm.gov.mo and following the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s official WeChat account “IC_Art_Macao” and “IC Art” on Facebook.
