The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced last night that the Health Bureau (SSM) has rolled out stricter COVID-19 prevention measures for those staying or working at the government’s “quarantine hotels”, in the wake of the deteriorating COVID-19 outbreaks regionally and globally.

A statement by the centre noted that the Health Bureau has amended its COVID-19 guidelines for those staying and for those working at the city’s quarantine hotels.

According to the new version of the guidelines for those staying at quarantine hotels, the statement said, those undergoing quarantine should not open the door of their guestroom unless necessary.

Whenever room guests need to open the door of their guestroom, according to the new guidelines, they should properly wear a KN95 facemask or one with the same standards, and ensure that the bathroom’s ventilation system is operating.

According to the new version of the guidelines for quarantine hotel staff, the statement said, the staff are required to inform by phone those undergoing quarantine in a guestroom on the same floor to pick up their meals outside the door of their room at different times.

According to the new guidelines, quarantine hotels should try to arrange for those with similar COVID-19 risk levels and those entering Macau at around the same time to stay on the same floor.

One more returnee from HK tests positive

Meanwhile, the centre announced in another statement last night that one more returnee from Hong Kong has tested positive for COVID-19.

The centre has classified the case as imported and asymptomatic, because of which it has not been added to Macau’s novel coronavirus tally, which therefore remains at 82.

The patient is a 58-year-old woman who received two Sinopharm inactivated jabs in Macau in June and July respectively. She tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival in Macau yesterday afternoon.

The woman has been transferred to the Health Bureau’s Public Health Clinical Centre for isolation treatment.

According to the statement, the woman has told Health Bureau officials that she had not received a COVID-19 booster jab as she was undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cancer.

In addition to the total of 82 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the centre pointed out last night that Macau has now reported a total of 51 asymptomatic COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22, 2020.
