An event entitled “AP71 The Chinese Zodiac – Thirteen Zodiac – Chai Rong Yan Art Exhibition” (AP71_十三生肖_柴荣燕藝術作品展) is on display in Room A02 at 10 Fantasia in São Lázaro district until March 29.
The exhibition is co-hosted by the Macau International Printmaking Arts Research Centre (澳門國際版畫藝術研究中心) and 10 Fantasia – A Creative Industries Incubator (瘋堂十號創意園) in conjunction with the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District. It is sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM).
According to a statement by the co-hosts, Chinese New Year painting culture is gradually disappearing, while the changes in our current lifestyles are increasing. Thus, traditional cultures “are not taken seriously” resulting in their disappearance.
The statement quoted Chai as saying that her 13 Chinese zodiacs are “rhetorical nicknames” to remind herself and everyone that all of us belong to the 13th zodiac – the Panda, despite the changes in our society.
The exhibition features wood engravings and synthetic paintings – a paint made with synthetically manufactured resins.
Chai was born in Quzhou (衢州), Zhejiang. She graduated with a B.A. in Visual Arts from the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM), majoring in Printmaking.
10 Fantasia opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays) at 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.
All visitors to the venue must wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code.
