32nd Macao Arts Festival themed ‘Invigorate’ set for May

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday that the 32nd Macao Arts Festival (MAF) themed “Invigorate” is set to be held in May.

The statement noted that the festival will feature various programmes and outreach activities. The full programme will be announced in due course.

The festival will focus on programmes from both Macau and the mainland, and previews of four programmes have already been launched, the statement said.

The statement underlined that the programmes featured are Hong Kong choreographer Willy Tsao Sing-yuen’s contemporary dance theatre production Free Man from the South, which draws inspiration from the poems of Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai;  playwright Zhu Yi and director Ding Yiteng’s I Am a Moon, which uses the “craters on the moon to tell six independent but interrelated stories”; a joint reproduction of classic Ancient Greek tragedy Electra  by the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre and a Greek production team; and new Shanghai-style Peking opera New Dragon Inn produced by Shi Yihong, a qingyi* actress of the Mei school from the Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company, according to the statement.

For the first day of ticket sales on April 3, an online reservation system has been arranged at the Macau Ticketing Network in line with pandemic prevention measures and in order to reduce crowds gathering.

The statement added that those who want to buy tickets at the outlets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first day need to reserve their ticketing slot from 10 a.m. on March 31 through the Macau Ticketing Network’s online reservation system. Upon successful registration, tickets can be bought within the specified time period at the selected outlets.

Moreover, ticketing services at the outlets along with telephone and online bookings will also be available from 10 a.m. on the first day.

For assistance, the statement pointed out, one can visit any of the Macau Ticketing Network’s outlets during business hours and the online system’s opening period. The statement added that booking time slots is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each mobile phone number can only be registered once
