A 25-centimetre-wide banyan tree branch broke off and landed on two vehicles in Rua de Santa Clara (家辣堂街) in the city centre, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, the branch broke off from a Chinese banyan. The statement said that after preliminary investigation, the branch did not have any insect infection, and the branch had plenty of leaves. The statement underlined that the bureau suspected that it broke off because it could not bear its own weight.
The statement noted that according to records, the branch was last checked in February 2021, and it was healthy.
