The Water and Marine Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement yesterday that, according to public utility Macao Water, residents used 160 litres of water per day in 2021, which is similar to the usage before the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the statement, Macao Water provides water to over 250,000 households, and over 79 percent of the water usage was on the peninsula. The statement noted that Macau residents’ water usage remained low as the population as a whole acknowledges the importance of water conservation.
5-minute shower challenge: lucky draw
In a separate DSAMA statement, the bureau has introduced a “shower for five minutes challenge” for World Water Day, which takes place today. The statement said that the bureau encourages residents to shower within five minutes on World Water Day to promote the importance of water conservation. The statement said that as a minute of showering could use up to 10 litres of water, which is enough for a person to drink for five days.
The statement said that besides the challenge, the bureau also has launched a string of events from yesterday until April 10, which require residents to complete different tasks per day in celebration of World Water Day. The statement said that the online event will host a lucky draw on Facebook, where over 100 prizes, including supermarket vouches and giftsets.
