Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has welcomed yesterday’s appointments by the State Council in Beijing for the posts of national security affairs adviser and national security technical adviser on the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS).

The director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR, Fu Ziying, was appointed national security affairs adviser of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security. Zheng Xincong, deputy director of the office, and Yin Shuhua, who heads the Public Relations Department of the office, were appointed national security technical advisers of the committee.

According to the statement, Ho said that the government will continue to work strictly in line with the nation’s Constitution and the MSAR Basic Law, and fully support the work of the national security affairs adviser and the national security technical advisers.

In the statement Ho reaffirmed Macau’s constitutional responsibility of safeguarding national security, resolutely defending the country’s sovereignty, security and development interests, while firmly protecting Macau’s long-term prosperity and stability.

The committee was set up by the local government in 2018. An amended version of the administrative regulation on the committee was published in Macau’s Official Gazette (BO) last December. The central government said in a statement at that time that the post of the committee’s national security advisor will be taken up by the director of the Liaison Office in the MSAR, while the posts of up to three national security technical advisors will be taken up by other officials from the office.
